Originally a milliner with a successful New York shop, she she opened the famous Hattie Carnegie boutique at 42 East 49th street there. Her company was one of the first to introduce ready-to-wear to the high-end market. Her company also discovered prominent American fashion designers including Norman Norell, Pauline Trigère and James Galanos and clients included Joan Crawford. Her clothing and jewelry designs are often prized today by collectors.   Figural brooches are a favorite.  Her designs are in the holdings of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The Chicago Vintage Clothing and Jewelry Show will take place March 1, 3pm to 8pm, March 2, 2019. 10am to 5pm at 5649 N. Sheridan Road, Chicago, IL 60660.
